What Is A Diamond Shape?

Shape refers to the geometric outline and overall physical shape of a diamond. Each diamond shape has its own specific characteristics that play an important role in the overall appearance of the stone.

Good cut: Quality at a lower price than a very good cut, still producing a beautiful diamond for the budget-minded.

Very Good cut: It gives the Diamond slightly less fire and brilliance than an ideally cut diamond, at a more affordable price.

Excellent cut: They shine with magnificent sparkle, fire and brilliance as almost all incoming light is reflected through their table.

Ideal cut: Highest cut grade. Its proportions produce a beautiful balance of fire and sparkle in a diamond.

The international unit of weight, used for measuring diamonds and gemstones. 1 carat is equal to 200 milligrams, or 0.2 grams.

Colour

Diamond Colour

L colour: L-colour diamonds are considered to be in the "near colourless" range. This means that while there may be a slight tint of colour, it's typically not very noticeable to the naked eye, especially when viewed in isolation.

K colour: The first of the "faint" colour grades, meaning colour may be detectable to the naked eye. K-colour diamonds can offer great value.

J colour: The last of the "near-colourless" grades, colour may be slightly detectable to unaided eye, particularly in fancy shapes/diamonds over 1-carat.

I colour: Colour may be only slightly detectable upon close examination. Exceptional value.

H colour: This is considered within the "near-colourless" range. Colour is only noticeable when compared to much higher Color grades. Excellent value.

G colour: The highest "near-colourless" grade. Colour may be detectable when compared to much higher "colourless" grades. Excellent value.

F colour: A "colourless" grade appreciated best set in platinum or white gold. Faint colour detectable by a trained gemologist.

E colour: A "colourless" grade appreciated best set in platinum or white gold. Traces of colour difficult for even trained eye to detect.

D colour: Highest, absolutely "colourless" grade, appreciated best set in platinum or white gold. Exceptionally rare.

I3: The inclusions are very evident and can seriously compromise the appearance of the diamond.

I1: They include inclusions that are easily visible to the naked eye and can affect transparency and brilliance.

I2: The inclusions are very visible and significantly affect the brilliance and transparency.

SI1: Inclusions easily detectable at 10x but not with the naked eye.

S12: Diffuse inclusions, easily identifiable at 10x but not with the naked eye.

VS1: Inclusion very difficult to spot in 10x by an expert.

VS2: Inclusion difficult to spot in 10x by an expert.

VVS1-VVS2: Almost pure, extremely small and decentralized inclusion.

Price

L/W ratio

The L/W ratio (length/width) indicates the proportion between the length and width of a diamond when viewed from above. A value of 1 represents a diamond with symmetrical proportions, ideal for round or square cuts. A higher value indicates a more elongated diamond, such as a pear or oval cut. If the diamond has a high L/W ratio, it will have a more elongated shape compared to a diamond with a lower ratio, which may be more balanced or squared.

Fluorescence

Diamond, subjected to ultraviolet (UV) light, has a luminous reaction. Usually, diamond emits blue light. This characteristic can be weak or strong and can slightly affect the appearance of the diamond.

It refers to the quality of the smoothing and polishing of its surfaces. A good finish makes the diamond more brilliant and attractive by improving the way it reflects light.
